Kelley Hunt & Ashley Davis team up for Cindy Novelo Benefit May 8!

Hunt & Davis team up to help friend Cindy Novelo - you can too!

Hunt & Davis team up to help friend Cindy Novelo - you can too!

UPDATE - 5/5/2010 You can now get tix ONLY at www.westsidefolk.org. We are sold out at Mass St. Music and will not be getting more tix. Thank you.

Saturday, May 8, songwriter/musicians Kelley Hunt and Ashley Davis will be performing at Unity Church in Lawrence (900 Madeline Lane, Lawrence) at 7:30 p.m. This unique concert will be directly benefiting another great Lawrence (and Vinland!) musician, and friend of Mass St. Music, Cindy Novelo who has been receiving treatment for cancer. Help defray her health costs and enjoy a great evening of music. Tickets for this special concert are $20 and are available at at www.westsidefolk.org , at Mass Street Music (785-843-3535), (sold out), Unity Church (785-841-1447). (sold out)

More info from the Westside Folk site: Two of Lawrence’s finest voices, Kelley Hunt and Ashley Davis, donate their time and talent to help fellow musician and songwriter, Vinland’s Cindy Novelo, who recently underwent emergency cancer surgery. Novelo, whose debut CD Stone’s Throw, was released shortly before her diagnosis, has incurred significant costs from her surgery and ongoing treatment, and West Side Folk volunteers, Unity Church, Al Berman join with Kelley Hunt and Ashley Davis to present this concert, where all proceeds from ticket sales and refreshments, as well as a portion of CD sales, will go to benefit Cindy.

Kelley Hunt is, quite frankly, a Lawrence musical treasure and legend, whose distinctive and personal blend of blues, roots, and Gospel traditions with powerful original songwriting has won her acclaim across North America and Europe. Whether laying down insistent blues riffs on the piano, belting out a Gospel tinged song, or exploring a quiet ballad with her rich voice, Kelley Hunt does it all. Her passionate stage presence has made her live performances legendary. Her songwriting explores social and political issues with an astuteness rarely heard, and her music not only crosses genres, but breaks down boundaries between people as well.

Opening for Kelley Hunt is special guest Ashley Davis, who has returned to her native Kansas after receiving an MA in Traditional Irish Music from the University of Limerick and becoming a major force on the New York Irish music scene. Her original music draws on both Celtic tradition and on American folk music. The Irish Voice of NYC calls her “a fiercely original voice that touches your heart without leaving you in fairy dust.”
