We’ve recently received a lot of very cool used gear in the store and it’s being updated daily on our site – everything from used Squiers, Fenders and Gibsons to used Collings and even some great used acoustic amps. And used pedals? We are thick with them. Still waiting on the new Catalin Bread pedals, but they should be in very soon. No, really. Seriously. We’ve also just received additions to the Gretsch Roots Collection, two resonator guitars – both a round neck and a square neck. They’re priced right and about as fun to play as it can get. On the new gear front, looks like we’ll be getting a brand new Analog Outfitters amp that is twice the power of a Sarge, same great tone with far more headroom. We’ll actually be getting the second ever made of these new amps – right behind Nels Cline of Wilco who approached AO himself about creation of this great amp. Be looking soon for an all-new Tom Anderson model too, and yes, we have one on the way…Boss Flynn is freaking out.
Renovations! When is the renovation going to be done you ask? Soon, soon. Jim, Bruce and Mark have done an amazing job on the new, larger electric try out room – painting is underway today and before you know it, it will be loaded with amps you can crank to 11. They’ve started work on the mezzanine room as well, so we’ll have a more comfortable area up there too. A beautiful new wood seating area has been installed near the front of the store – we’ll have nicer seating all over the store, so you can feel right at home when you visit. P.S. We are actively seeking one or two mannequins for our windows – have a lead? Give a shout at firstname.lastname@example.org or give us a call at 785-843-3535.
Video News – Did you miss the Taylor Road Show on April 22? It was the best one yet and we can prove it…. Here’s a sweet Taylor Road Show recap video shot by our video genius Jesse Roberts. We also had a really great visit from Josh and Steve from JHS Pedals in Kansas City, who braved one of the last snow/ice pellet days in April to come visit the store and shoot a video. Check out the JHS article here, or at the end of this month’s newsletter. Check out all of our great Mass Street Music videos on Youtube.
Mass Street Music recently became a sponsor of Larry Carter’s great Tuesday Concert Series at the Lawrence Arts Center – these are wonderful, informal concerts every Tuesday evening at 7:30 pm. Cost is by donation. Larry has been doing this great series for 8 years now and it’s a wonderful showcase for local Lawrence talent – with a few real surprises along the way. Coming up on May 14 is Tasha Hass & the Silos – original folk rock. On Tuesday May 21 they’ll host Byron James and Friends including Larry Carter on fretless bass!
At Americana – Our friends just down the street at Americana Music Academy have some exciting plans for spring and summer with the Nu-Blu Bluegrass Band at 3:30 on Sunday, May 19, proceeded by a “Jamming with the Band” workshop at 1:30. The big Americana Benefest is coming up on June 15 & 16 – 3pm-9pm both days, with music (of course!), food, art and more to benefit this great non-profit music academy. Bands include Ghetty Township, Scenic Roots, Ashes to Immortality and many more, plus their own student groups. We’ll be there and you should be too!
Jim & Jim – On Wednesday, May 8, hirsute My Morning Jacket leader, Jim James, stopped by the store – quite a nice surprise! He was kind enough to pose for a photo with our own Boss Baggett.
Last but not least we are sad to say goodbye to our video and web pro Jesse Roberts. He’s getting hitched at the end of the month and moving to Kansas City! We look forward to seeing him around, playing with his phenomenal band Quiet Corral, but will miss his incredible talent and great sense of humor. Jesse, we all wish you the very, very best.
