Moonlighting at the Art House

Art Hosue Studio

Art House Studio

There’s a new joint venture between Mass Street Music‘s own John Flynn, Isaac Flynn, Matt C and studio engineer Jim Barnes  -  The Art House. It’s  an innovative recording studio located near the heart of downtown Lawrence.  The Art House is much more than just a recording studio however, it’s an arts collective housing visual artists, filmmakers and music teachers, including veteran Mass St Musician Eric Mardis.  So far the reviews have been outstanding. Andy McKee free clinic raised awareness of music education

andy1Thought you might want to see some photos from the great (and free!) Andy McKee clinic held here at Mass St. Music on Feb. 20th. We had a lot of fun, packed the house and raised awareness (and some money!) for Americana Music Academy‘s Scholarship Program. Thanks to all the folks that came out and supported Andy and music education. Special thanks to Andy McKee, who happens to have a brand new album, ‘Joyland’, out digitally March 23rd and actual cds out April 6th. This is a great album with lots of cool bonus material including some mini lessons on DVD. If you look closely you might even recognize a certain music store in the background on a video. Sweet! Eastman’s Grisman Lyon & Healy Mandola – Grisman Signature Series

Our good friend Scott Tichenor at mandolincafe.com stopped by last week and let us have a gander at this incredible Eastman David Grisman Signature Series Lyon & Healy mandola prototype (Eastman DGM3). He also let me have a go at it with my camera – have a look…

Eastman's third foray into recreating Grisman's instruments - Lyon & Healy Mandola

Eastman's third foray into recreating Grisman's instruments - Lyon & Healy Mandola

This is the third instrument in their Grisman Signature Series, with Eastman very skillfully replicating one of his instruments for a short run.  Our owner Jim Baggett loved this mandola. It’s a real beauty and sounds wonderful.  For more info and a hands-on review, check out Scott’s take on it at mandolincafe.com. We’ve not received word on availability right now, but these are very limited.  If you’re interested, please give us a call at 1-800-747-9980 or drop us a line at info@massstreetmusic.com.  In the meantime, enjoy the photos.  Thanks for sharing Scott! Turlough O’Carolan tunes captured on video!

Just in time for St. Patty’s Day – here’s a great youtube video channel featuring great Celtic music from the Turlough O’Carolan concert/workshop (January segment of the  Elbow Room free workshop series).  Mass Street Music pal Lawrence Pennington attended and thankfully videotaped this great performance.  Scott Tichenor on mandolin and Bill Crahan on guitar threw down some great Celtic tunes and you can see most of them here on Mr. Pennington’s youtube channel. Thank you Lawrence, Bill and Scott!
