Beppe Gambetta stops by

Versatile and virtuoso guitarist Beppe Gambetta stopped by Mass Street today. When I asked him if he was playing in the area, he said no. He said “I came to have Jim (Baggett, the owner) set up my Rockbridge guitar. He’s a master.”

Here Beppe shows off his newly set up guitar, along with his infamous red shoes in one shot. Beppe’s off to St. Louis to play then Indiana and Iowa and parts beyond. Don’t miss him if you get the chance to see him play.

Pedal Boards Exposed! Part 2 – Eric Mardis

Ready to ROCK

Ready to ROCK

This is my “rock” pedal board.  I only use this one with tube amps that have high gain distortion channels and effects loops. I use a 100-watt Marshall JCM 900 or my 120-watt Peavey JSX head.   I hate distortion pedals (save for one which will remain un-named until next time) so there is no better way to go for me than to set it up like this:

First, for those who don’t know, an “effects loop” allows you to place your modulation and time based effects (chorus/flange/phase/delay/pitch shift) AFTER your distortion. Basically, the signal jumps out of the amp after your preamp section, hits whatever pedals that need to be in the loop, then back into the amp before heading to the power section…  makes for much “cleaner” tones. New Fretboard Journal features Deke Dickerson!!

Clarence White's tele on the cover of new Fretboard Journal

Clarence White's tele on the cover of new Fretboard Journal

We love Fretboard Journal, and just wanted to give you all a heads up that the new issue is in the store at Mass Street. This is chock full of fun stuff – crazy guitar aficionado and Untamed Youth veteran, Deke Dickerson, Ned Steinburger, Ray Davies and a very cool in-depth look at Martin’s D-18 Authentic, plus a whole lot more. Clarence White’s Tele is on the cover. This always has photos to drool over too and this issue is no exception. Let me just say, Deke Dickerson has a heck of a lot of cool guitars. Anyhoo, it’s a very cool magazine, and we’ve got ‘em here.

Also til Monday we’ve got just a couple issues of the last (winter 2008) ish, which featured Bill Frisell interviewing Jim Hall, some very cool stuff on the Stooges’ James Williamson’s guitars and lots more.

Metallic Green Hollowbody 12 String Bass Anyone?

The Green Behemoth!

The Green Behemoth!

This crazy hollowbody Tennessee 12 String Bass is something else. It weighs in at almost 14 pounds (I guessed 22, but the bass is only a few inches shorter than me!). This thing is ginormous! And it comes with a coffin case! Our good friend JC dropped this off for consignment, and it’s in the store -Never seen anything like it, so thought I’d slap it up here on the blog. We’ll have the rest of his consignment goodies up in a few days, including a ’73 tele. Sweet stuff.
