Just a quick heads up that our good friends the Midday Ramblers (which includes our great repair shop manager, Mike Horan) will be playing the annual Holiday Hoedown tonight, Friday, Dec. 12, at Liberty Hall in Lawrence, along with the Wilders and Drakkar Sauna. Show starts at 7:30. Woo-hoo! If you need a little Christmas cheer or a just a little sonic tonic for your soul, you’d be hard pressed to do better than the Hoedown. Last year they did some of their own sets and also mixed it up with members of the other bands so it was quite a sweet ‘variety’ show.
Also, Saturday early evening (5:30), the great Ricky Dean Sinatra performs at the Jackpot Saloon at 10th and Mass. Street. This was the first band that ever let me play with them on stage (what were they thinkin’?!), and one of the most fun local bands from years gone by. They’re back at it and I don’t mind telling you the Dean can really rile a crown with his unique voice (and vibrato), and moves folks to take to the dance floor with songs like Little Latin Lupe Lu. If you’re down that way, check it out this Saturday.
And, if that’s not quite enough music for you, Mass Street Music good buddy (and former employee) Brian Soden, will take over the Jazzhaus on 9th and Mass. Street, with his band True North – this Saturday night, with opener Jared Pete Gile from Manhattan, KS. They’ll all start around 9pm. So, if you’re not out makin’ music, go hear some!
